Dear Friends,
We wanted to reach out with an important notice. But first, please know you are in our thoughts at this difficult time and we want to let you know how grateful we are for your support. BTC is proud to be part of the West Hartford community which continues to inspire us through its passion and loyalty. With you by our side, we will emerge from this unprecedented time stronger and more resilient.
Dance has the incredible capability to connect us through our shared humanity. Over the last several days we have seen this first hand as people turn to the arts to brighten their days through live stream performances, virtual tours and classes. Dance thrives in shared space, but the safety of our dancers, audiences, patrons and friends is our main priority. It is important that we heed public health warnings and stay home for as long as is necessary. Therefore, we are cancelling all performances in the remainder of our season, specifically, Ode to Frank
and Aladdin.
Ballet Theatre Company School classes
and Community Youth Outreach Program classes
will remain suspended for as long as public schools in our area are closed. As the situation remains uncertain at this time, we are diligently working on contingency plans for such classes and our end of the year Student Showcase. In the meantime, we have provided our students and families with a “Keep Dancing - At Home Guide” filled with dance class and dance conditioning videos, dance related activities and social connectivity movement challenges. Please share with your friends and neighbors. For now, our Summer Dance Classes (June 22-August 21) will proceed as scheduled.
This difficult decision, however necessary, will no doubt have a ripple effect on the dozens of artists, educators, and staff who rely on Ballet Theatre Company for their livelihood. You have seen many of them on stage or in the studio, and some of them you may not know. Each contributes an invaluable piece of our organization to ensure BTC delivers thoughtful and impactful work to improve the quality of so many lives. However, without our patrons’ support there is an unfortunate possibility BTC may not survive an extended closure.
In the coming days we will be reaching out to affected ticket holders and we hope you will consider donating your ticket value to the organization. With operations and income coming to a standstill we can use all of your support to help us weather this unprecedented storm. Consider making your donation
today. Your support now will ensure that this organization will be able to produce and present great work after this health crisis is over.
We encourage you to join us and other West Hartford Arts and Cultural organizations who are finding creative solutions in this situation. We promise to fill your inboxes and social media feeds with some unique and enjoyable content we might not have gotten to share with you otherwise. We hope you’ll stay tuned, stay healthy, and stay safe. We look forward to dancing with you very soon.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Dattellas Tracy Dorman
